"THE KAFTAN" IS BASED ON THE MERGE OF CULTURES. SILHOUETTES AND SILKS FROM THE MIDDLE EAST'S AND AFRICA'S HISTORICAL KAFTANS AND ROBES WITH A SCANDINAVIAN, MINIMALISTIC FEEL AND HEAVY, WARM WOOL AND POLYESTER MIX. THE COLLECTION SEEKS WHAT WE HAVE IN COMMON, TO EMBRACE OUR DIFFERENCES AND HOW WE CAN INSPIRE EACH OTHER ACROSS HISTORY AND CULTURES.
HISTORIC REFERENCE: KAFTANS FIRST APPEARED IN THE OLD REALM OF PERSIA 600BC AND IS A SIMPLE PIECE OF CLOTHING WHICH WERE WORN BY BOTH MEN AND WOMEN FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. THERE IS MANY EXAMPLES OF VARIATIONS AND SILHOUETTES, ALSO WITH AND WITHOUT PRINT AND EMBELLISHMENTS. FURTHERMOREI FIND IT INTERESTING HOW THE KAFTAN WAS (AND STILL IS) WORN ACROSS SOCIAL CLASSES ON SULTANS AND FARMERS. KAFTANS ARE MOST COMMONLY ACCOSIATED WITH ISLAMIC CULTURES – FOR EXAMPLE IN INDIA, THE MIDDLE EAST OR AFRICA
– AND BECAME POPULAR IN THE WESTERN CULTURES' HIPPIE MOVEMENT IN THE 60S AND 70S, AS AN INTEREST FOR MORE COMFORTABLE
 AND LIBERATING CLOTHES WERE RISING.
